Michaelmas Celebrations 2024

We enjoyed this year’s Michaelmas celebrations by listening to the tale of St Michael, looking at the meaningful lessons these stories can teach us and enjoying a range of homemade soups.

Michaelmas Day, celebrated on September 29th, honours St. Michael and heralds the arrival of autumn and the shortening of days.

St. Michael is regarded as a leading angelic warrior, serving as a guardian against the darkness of night, and is renowned for his battle against Satan and his evil forces. As we sat in the beautiful Whitsun hall, we listened to the tale of St. Michael and the dragon, a captivating story brimming with bravery, preparation, and acceptance.

For us, this time of year marks a time of reflection, to look inwards with gratitude for what we have and where we are now (Signified by the coming of the harvest), and to prepare for who and where we want to be in the future. This is reflected in the tale of St. Michael and its teachings of resilience in the face of challenge, the recognition/ appreciation of others and the preparation for the darkness that comes with winter.

To commemorate this special day the whole community came together. We enjoyed wonderful songs organised by Debbie and topped it off with delicious soup and hearty bread, made by the houses and the Bakery/ Cookery workshops. We displayed our bountiful harvest from the land workshop and took this opportunity to be thankful for what we have, for the amazing people around us and the support we show for one another.
